Question On Mufflers

Hey all,

So my income tax finally returned and I'm looking to do a few upgrades on the Stang. First of all, as the title suggests, is the muffler.

I've been looking at a lot of different sites and prices, and I've narrowed it down to the best two: Flowmaster Super 40's and the Force Brand Mufflers.

I have an '01 GT and was wondering which brand was better and more cost-effective, and which model I should get. I'm looking at the intake/outtake barrels on the Flowmaster mufflers (I'm not tech about this stuff lol) and they're all in different spots (intake will be on the upper side and outtake will be on the lower, for example) and there also seems to be a difference in size, such 2.25", 2.5" or 3", so I'm just wondering what the differences are.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I've been looking forward to making my car louder for going on a year now

i have always had macs on my mustang and to me they have the best sound and almost little of nothing in price and they are up front in the horsepower gains

Depends on how much money you have to spend. Myself, I'm not a big fan of flowmasters, they will rust out over time (I had to replace the Flows that came on my car simply because the entire system had rusted out by the time I purchased the car, don't know how old it was though) and they don't exactly add the best power.

If you're on a tight budget then get the force flows. If you're staying with stock pipes you want a 2.25" offset/offset set of mufflers.

If you have a little cash to spend I'd look into doing the whole thing. Get a high flow catted H-Pipe (unless your state doesn't do smog test, then just get an O/R H-Pipe, you'll have much better sound) then get a set of Magnaflow, Borla, or Bassani catbacks. All of those systems are made out of high grade stainless steel, add very nice performance, oh, and not to mention will last an extremely long time.

It's all up to you because everybody has different taste on exhaust. Me, I'm not a flowmaster man because, well that's what most people have and you don't have a unique sound, I like to be unique and sound different, and better, from the norm.
