Big Plans for your Mustang
So what does everybody have in store for their Mustang? I have some big plans that will get under way within in the year if everything goes right.
Built 302 swap
T56 6 spd or TKO500 5 Spd
Either 8.8 rear or Cobra IRS with 4.10 gears
MM Tubular K-Member
Anything else that I need to complete the swap

i have already done my largest task on the list which was to drop in an 01 cobra engine.
on the waiting list (parts i have already bought)
-saleen heat extractor hood
-03 cobra front bumper
-saleen s281 rear spoiler
need to buy the old lady a new ride, i'll use her current one as a daily driver, then get all my pieces painted/installed. this should happen within the next year.
then maybe eventually a blower

yikes
Your gonna swap a v6 out and a 302 in? It would be cheaper to buy a gt. Everything has to be changed from wires to rear. You will def end up lookin like this guy>

Well its going to be a track car. And in my opinion the SN-95 chassis is better then that on a fox. I could go out and buy a 94-95 but I would still be pulling the motor, building it, putting IRS on more then likely and swapping out the tranny. This also gives me a chance/excuse to get a tubular K-member since I need a different one for the swap. So really the only more work that Im doing is a k-member (which I would probably get anyway) and the wiring. It also gives me a chance to get all the parts together that I want, get it all ready to go in before I start ripping things out and not being able to drive the Mustang. Also if I over budget I still have the Mustang to drive instead of it just sitting there.
And I just like the look of my Mustang and don't want to start over on another one.
Not to mention Ill have the V6 and tranny sitting around. Can we say Go-Kart

OK.. you get my first post on this site...
What have you already done to your ride?? I'm inclined to agree with Ripper... sell the V6 and buy a GT.
You said, it was going to be a track car... what type of racing, do you have a rule book for the class you want to run?? You mentioned a 302 swap (I assume you are referring to a push rod motor), Cobra IRS suspension and possibly a T56 tranny. I don't know what sanctioning body you are going to race under, but I would think you are going to be in a Modified class as most of the mods you have planned were not available on a 99 Mustang, ie. 302 push rod motor, T56 tranny or the Cobra IRS.
You are talking major time and expense to do this swap, unless you are a really good engineer or have unlimited funds to have everything built and installed.
I don't mean to be ripping you up here. But, sit down and make a list of all the mods that you want to make (302 motor build up or crate motor, T56 tranny, adapters, 8.8 rear axle housing, wiring harness, computer modules, etc.) and start pricing parts, labor, and fabrication cost for your project.. you are more than likely going to have to fab many parts in your project.
Good luck with whatever you do...
Bobby M.

I'm planning on running in the NASA American Iron Series. And from what Ive read up on the only real restriction is on power to weight. I will look more when I have the time to do so and make sure but I'm pretty sure thats the biggest restriction. I have yet to see anything restricting motors.
This also will not to be an extremely expensive swap. I don't want to go out a buy a GT because I would rather use the push-rod motor over the mod motor. And even if I did go out and buy one I would still be pulling the motor, swapping out the tranny, and the rear-end. And also while I'm at it be putting a tubular k-member. So the only more amount of work I'm doing that I wouldn't have to do with a GT is wiring. So why not do it to a car that I would prefer to have.
Labor costs will be very little if any at all. I have a friend who is a certified SAE mechanic that will be helping me out alot on the project. So the only real labor I would have to spend is on th K-member being replaced. Also there should be very little if any fabrication of parts because the 302 has sat in this chassis before. The only change would be the K-member.
I understand this is a different type of setup. But the way I see it. It gives me a chance like I said, to have the best of both worlds. The body style and chassis that I want with the motor that I want.

this winter im hoping to get my rear rebuilt, with some 3.73s, rebuild the diff, all new bearings and a support cover. I might just weld the axle tubes for the hell of it. New lower control arms (stock bushings cant handle to many nasty burnouts). The Performance distributor screaming deamon coils and wires, and my rear bumper needs new paint, thanks to a jackass that cant drive, and cant tell when his car has hit something.....
