Default Little Help..

Hey everyone.. I was just wondering if anyone can help me out. Ofcourse some opinions also. I'm re'doing the body on my 85 Mustang.. I was wondering what's the best way to grind down all the rust and fill in the body and fill in the holes.. I'm a novice at this but I'm a fast learner. I have no problems with the little holes little rust spots here and there but how do i get the big problems the holes.. How do i fill those in properly?? Thanks in advance for the help..

Jason

Go to autozone and get a can of hole filler (can't remember the exact name now). Well, hope you're planning on repainting the whole car cause, that's the only way to fully fix the problem. Now onto the how to. Go to Home Depot and get a circular grinder and several different size and grit pads that are made specifically for sheet metal (will be located in hardware generally directly across or right near the drills and grinders). The Ryobi unit will be enough for a one time use type of deal, but if you're gonna do more then get a Dremel. Also, get a corded unit, battery just won't make it. Now you're going to have to clean the surface area of paint (if not done so already) so that you can see the full extent of the rust. To remove the rust spots, just use the grinding to "sand" over the surface until you have metal again, if the hole is deep, then use the grinder to sand around the edges until all the rust is removed, then use the filler, and follow the directions to fill the holes (you'll also need sandpaper, so might as well get a set that will work with the grinder to sand it down flat). Now if the rust is really bad, then a new body part, or sheet metal work will be in order.

Not really a hard task, but it's gonna be a little time consuming.

Hey bro what's going on. Thanks for all the tips.. Ill be working on my car next week when i got to my best friends house in Upstate NY.. Going to do the entire body over grind the rust down fill it up and sand it down then probably primer for some paint

Question.. I have a few holes in the body behind both doors and on the fenders.. Nothing major but they need to be filled.. What's the easy way to fill the hole completely? You said the hole filler.. How does that work exactly if u can throw in a few more pointers and some steps it'll be great man.. Thanks again. And also when i'm going next week i'll be taking before and after pics and i'll post them on here

Thanks..
Jason

It's a putty like filler that you put on a putty knife and spread over the hole until it's flush with body. After a while (depending on the brand) it will harden to a rock like consistancy, then you take a piece of sand paper and sand the top flat/flush with the body, and you're done until painting.

Filling rust holes with bondo is not the idea way, in fact it's the wrong way.

Bondo is for filling little door dings, not for fixing rust holes..

You want to cut out the rust section, weld in a new piece of metal, grind the welds, and then do a skin coat of filler (I dont care for bondo brand, I use rage gold.)
