yea, may have to replace the quadrant. but if your stock one is good, pull up on the pedal (10lbs of pressure.) the push al the way to the floor, if you hear a click, its reset...

What exactly is the quadrant?

And do you know if this wil work in a regular 87 GT? I have the same problem.D:

I set it up and then a few days later it will be hard as fuck to push into gears.

if you get under the dash look at your clutch pedal, flollow it up and it will connect to a metal rod. the rod will go towards the center of the car, on the other side of this rod is the quadrant. it looks kinda like a protractor at 120 degrees.
what happens is the teeth on the quadrant wear out and the adjustment slips. so you have to replace it. going with a metal one will save you from having do do it ever again, but it will no longer be "self" adjustable. but you could get one with 3 settings or get a firewall adjuster, or an adjustable cable and so on...

yes, same set up on regular 87 gt. my buddy had one and if he let the clutch out too hard the adjustment was shot and he wou8ld have to turn the car off to get it in first, or reset it. (which had to be done from under the dash since his was so far gone.)

I was having a similar problem with my 87 LX. i got a kit from Steeda that included an adjustable cable that releases smooth as hell, a double hook aluminum quadrant that makes pushing the pedal easier and a firewall adjuster. the only modification was to drill one hole in the firewall so i could screw in both screws for the adjuster and to cut a little piece off the end of the cable. took about a month for the cable to stretch but as it does it's extremely easy to readjust from under the hood. definitely one of the best things i've spent $100 dollars on in a while.

Angry Clutch and/or transmission problem??

I have a 1988 GT 5 speed I just bought and need to know if I should replace the stock quadrant and/or clutch.I get a low chirping sound at idle and when my foot rests on the pedal it stops. Also 2nd is tough to get into.Reverse is not as bad.The power seems a little week when going through the gears. Is this the clutch gone bad or is it just the quadrant is shot? Also if I let the rpms reach above around 2500 itll try to grab and get power while the chirping continues to be louder than at idle.I just dont want to be shifting in such high rpms, the manual says to shift like at 12mph then 24 then 36 then 45.I just want to know that the power is there but I guess maybe there is a problem.

Default Clutch Adjustment

Save yourself all the worry and just replace the stock quadrant with one of the aftermarket billet quadrants and a firewall adjuster. I did this with mine and have 0 problems. Easy to adjust and don't have to worry about the"pedal play" or the stock plastic wearing out. I used the UPR triple hook quadrant with the cable hooked onto the center hook and a Steeda firewall adjuster with a stock cable. Smooth clutch action with no problems whatsoever.
