Default swaping drivetrain

Thanks for letting me become a member. I am looking forward to getting some good advice from all of the gang. I have a 87 lx convertible with a rebult 2.3( none turbo ) and rebult aod trans. I came across another 87 hatchback that was wrecked with a 5.0, 5 speed trans, and 9" rear end. I am currantly swapping out the hole drivetrain and wiring harness. I would like to sell 2.3 motor, trans and rear end and am wondering the best place to do so. Should I do it on a site like this, ebay, craiglist or maybe some other site.

Just be warned, there are a lot of parts needed to swap from the 2.3L to the 5.0 aside from the basic drivetrain and wiring harness.

Well the stock T-5 isn't the greatest, so if you can afford a better transmission, I'd do just that, get a better transmission. The top trannies are the TKO 500/600, T-56 (5.0 version), and the World Class T-5 (a little stronger than the regular T-5). If the tranny is an auto, can it, it's going to kill your power.

Best places to sell parts are:
ebay
mustangforums.com
corral.net
paper

These sites (aside from a paper entry) are very high traffic, especially corral.net which specializes in mustang classifieds, and will yield the best odds of you selling your parts.

Also, while you're doing the swap, build up the 5.0, it won't cost too much to do, and will make you grin nicely when you're done. Also, spend a few extra bucks and pop off the oil pan, pull the internals, hone the block, and put new bearings and rings in the motor, this will ensure an extra long life with the motor.

If you're looking for an economy build get the following parts (won't make the best power, but is fairly cheap)

GT-40 upper/lower intake
GT-40 Heads or GT-40P Heads (better performance), or GT-40 X303 Heads (best performance)
Cam swap is optional, if you want the car to be a DD, get a Steeda #18 cam or stay stock.
New 1.7 roller rockers
New Springs (if the heads are bare)
New Ford Racing Hardened Push Rods (very strong and durable)
Of course, all new gaskets
24lb fuel injectors (will support the extra power)
Pro-M maf calibrated to your injector size

With this set up you'll take that 5.0 from a meager 170 rwhp to well over 250 depending on head setup, cam selection, etc.

I know there is more to the swap than the the engine and wiring harness. If I can't get what I need off of the parts car I have I can figure something else out. I also own a machine shop so I can make some of my own stuff.

the trans is a t-56

The 5.0 is all rebuilt on the stand ready to go. Bored out, new bearing, pistons, gaskets, cam, springs oil pump water pump etc. I'll change the intake after I see what I have now.

I have never been at corral.net I'll ceck it out. thanks for the reply

My biggest problem right now is the weather. I would like to paint the engine compartment but its been to cold up here in Wisconsin and I was trying to stay away from heating the garage.
I am sure when I get into the reassemble of this project there will be more questions I hope you can help me out at that time.
I did sell the 2.3L on craiglist the AOD tranny is still out there. Now I have more horsepower money. Thanks for the help
