Default fuel sending unit

ok, so my fuel gauge works, but only after a quarter tank. none of the discount shops carry the sending unit or know where to get one. i was thinking going to the pic it yard to get one, but i dont know what it looks like, is it on the pump assembly?

When you drop the tank, there will be 2 (two) locking rings, one will be obvious the fuel pump (2 hoses and an eletrical plug) the other will be the sending unit. I might even have a spare out in the garage. if you want, let me know...

Almost any aftermarket retoration supply company or your local FORD dealer will have it. Usually not an item carried at the "retail parts outlets". Hardest part is dropping the damb tank.

Sad to say, that part may be (according to ford), no longer available. Ford has a nasty habit of 'dropping parts that don't sell'. Especially if they're 10 years or older.

As far as a ford dealer stocking one? If they did, and they do have it, it's by accident. MOST ford dealers have a parts stocking setup, that if an item doesn't sell within 6 months (usually less), it doesn't get stocked. The parts that were already there before they implemented that process usually get sent back to ford. If they're too old, then who knows. Sold however they can. But they will not (as a rule), leave them on the paperwork as an 'in stock' item.

Good luck with your quest.

Oh yeah, and another thing. IF you were to pull one out of a junked/parted out car, the chances of that one being better/good are 50/50 at best.

Again, goodluck.

There is no way to upgrade fuel sending unit. I think Black93GT meant fuel pump.

Fox Mustang fuel sending unit looks like this...
