Default Are the NMRA and Fun Ford Weekends Dead?

While both the NMRA (National Mustang Racers Association) and Fun Ford Weekends still attract many racers and fans, it seems that the following for these type of events is slipping. It appears that fewer people are attending the races, which means fewer people are racing, showing or visiting the manufacturers midway. Sure gas prices are a factor, but is it the only one?
Because so many local tracks offer street night programs, maybe people don't really feel like getting together for an entire weekend in a big group for a national event. Having grown up in a "bowtie" household, the "Super Chevy Sunday's" look pale to the way they were 15-20 years ago also, so it seems like it is across the board. Where is the excitement??? The World Ford Challenge has changed to the World Street Challenge to generate a bigger event and to pit Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar vs Import (so the ad says). Maybe a grudge race mentality is the answer, you know, Good vs bad, Bowtie vs Blue Oval, big motor vs turbo, etc. Only time will tell.
So the question is, who is going? Are you going to the World Street Challenge? Are you going to the Fun Ford event or NMRA event coming near you? Or are you spending your money on a couple of "test and tune" nights at the local dragstrip, hanging with friends, and keeping it simple.
For more info on these events please visit www.funfordevents.com, www.nmraracing.com, and www.worldstreetchallenge.com.
