yellow 1996-97 mustang???

I am new to the Mustang scene, but I have read that yellow was not available in 1996 or 1997. I am looking at a really nice low mileage 1996 GT convertible that is chrome yellow, but I haven't seen the paint code on the car. I have also seen other chrome yellow 1996 and 1997 Mustangs for sale on various web sites. The Yellow Mustang Registry lists one 1996 and one 1997 chrome yelow car.

Am I crazy, or is the information that no yellow cars were made in 1996 and 1997 incorrect? Either the car I am looking at is extremely rare (not supposed to any in that color) or it has been repainted. I am not interested in a repainted car.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject and educate me before I make a big mistake?

Yellow did go away for a while in the '90s. In '94 and '95, it was Canary Yellow. Then there was no yellow for '96 or '97. In 1998, Chrome Yellow made it's appearance on Mustangs. '99 saw Chrome Yellow again, then '01-'03 was Zinc Yellow. '04 and newer is "Screaming" Yellow.

In 94/95 the color was listed as Canary Yellow, in 96-98 it changed to Chrome Yellow, same exact color and color code (BZ) but I guess Ford just wanted a color name. For the edges it changed to a brighter Zinc Yellow.

in 96-98 i belive there ws Chrome Yellow i have a 95 yellow gt

Was your car repainted/painted, it seems to be slightly brighter than normal canary/chrome yellow, looks closer to the zinc yellow used on 99+
