I painted the removable door panels where the window/door lock switches are, back when I had my DSG '03. It's the same paint they put on the exterior of the car, so.. as far as it being able to be taken off.. not sure that'd work too well.
I'm sure you can get new or gently used ones for pretty cheap, to have as a back up set.

I had a friend who repainted his interior on his 98 GT from saddle tan to black. The exterior of the vehicle was black so he wanted to go with a single color theme. It took time with alot of sand and prep but when it was said and done he pulled it off with a pristine interior that rivaled a showcar finish.

Like Graves said if you can purchase a set of used interior pieces as a back up or for the project itself it will serve you the most good. You can go about the project without worry of showing a defect if you make a mistake in the paint process. Plus you are in no rush to get the job done if the vehicle is your daily driver.

i have seen another write where the person used brake cleaner to clean the panels and was wondering since it was used to clean the part then maybe it would be good for removing the paint cuz i want to paint my interior but want to be able to go back and change it to another color if i wanted really wanted to without the paint looking real gloppy.

Couldn't you paint over the other color?

Depending on how many coats of paint you use it can somewhat be removed. You can use a wire brush and brillo pad if you use like 2 or 3 coats. you will probbaly get a few scratches and still have some of the other color but enough should come off to repaint it the stock interior color. I painted the interior of my BII. i have to redo one of my kick panels because i didnt prep it well enough but other than that it will do untill i tweed my interior.

Just be sure to take your time preping it. The more time you spend on prepping the better it will come out. If you use armor all or any interior cleaner be sure to clean it really good(and i mean REAALLLYYY GOOD) because paint will not stick to it at all. If you start to spray and you see bubbles or spotting, stop and wipe it off and clean it some more.

When cleaning i had good results with the pink brillo pads(ones with soapy stuff in it), some rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover.

Some pieces i tried painting and no matter how many times i cleaned it, it would still bubble up. I tried using a coat or two of body primer and it helped the paint stick.

Anyways hope that helps some good luck with the painting project
