Car Not Starting
Today, my car was lugging so bad it had no power and was unable to go over 1800 rpm's. Finally, my check engine light came on and it died and wasn't able to start back up again. At first I thought it was the fuel pump but that is working, replaced the fuel filter, that wasn't it.....
My other two thoughts are the ignition module or the main coil. However, the ignition module is $78 whereas the coil is only $38. I'm hesitant to buy an electrical part if I don't need it, especially at a price of $78.
My car tries to start but just can't turn over. Does this sound like an ignition module problem to anyone else? I've heard this is a common problem for 94 5.0L Mustangs.....

Well the EECIV ECUs used in 94s were not the most sensitive, so for it to actually trip the check engine light means it's a pretty straight forward issue, however a car not starting can mean a number of things. Best thing to do would be to get it to a shop and have them run a diagnostic and tell you what's wrong. I'm betting it's going to have to do with the ignition coil, distributer, or the ignition moduel. All of which aren't exactly cheap, however I'm betting your problem lies somewhere in those parts.

Well, I replaced the ignition module which was bad, the ignition main coil and still nothing happened. But, a WONDERFUL worker at Auto Zone suggested the pickup coil in the distributer and sure enough, that's what the culprit was! Now, I just need the timing fixed...B A D.
FYI, these parts were not costly = ) The module was $50, main coil $20 and pickup coil, $30. Not bad for only $100.......
Thanks for your reply though......I now have it fixed....

Glad to hear you got it working again, and that it wasn't too expensive!

I had the exact same experience with my 95 5.0!! Took a bit of investigation as well!
I also experienced some major fuel issues with SuperChips chip I installed. Once I removed it, all my probs went away. Not sure if you have one, but I thought it may save you time if you do and ever had any issues again.

im kind of having the same problem sith the my 95 mustang not starting. but my problem i believe is an intake problem. my car wont start unless i take the intake hose off of the throttle body and my buddy blocks the intake with a board. then it starts right up. and idles fine. until i put the intake hose back on. thenit dies. i have replaced basically everything up to the throttle body. any suggestion on what to check next.

If the car won't start, check the basic things first:
Is the battery OK?
Do you have oil in the engine?
It's a very common situation when the fuel gauge isn't working properly and the car runs out of fuel with the fuel gauge still showing some fuel in the tank.
