fuel pump removal

have question my fuel pump went out and im trying to remove the fuel from the tank. i would drop the tank except it has a full tank. ive tried to use a hose and put it down the filler neck but it hits a screen or something right before it goes into the tank. anyone know how to get it out with out killing my self by droping it with a full tank?
