Exclamation need you thoughts and ideas!!!!

now for my question!!! i have a 03 stang gt with a 4r70w trans that ive killed again..7,000 miles after rebuild. im looking into a 5 speed swap cause i think i can drop a few tenths off my time with the less weight higher stall and the main thing the fun factor! i have a 3400 stall in my auto now but im done with that and i really dont want to rebuild it again and have to yank the mother in less than a year again! whats everybodys thoughts?? will my 430 gear be too much gear for the 1320?? could i drop a tenth or more with the less weight and if i can get the launch and shifting down..been awhile since ive raced a 5 speed. i know ill need the pedals, shifter, flywheel, clutch, trans, crossmember, drive shaft yoke, and maybe a tune...so let me hear what everybody thinks!! later and thanks!!

If you ever find anything on how to do the swap and a list of parts let me know, because I was thinging about swapping out the auto trans in my v6 for a 5speed. I am very interested in any info youcan collect on the subject.

By all means change it out. For the gears, I used 4.10's myself in my 98 Cobra, but I hear that many use 4.30's. Depends on how much gas milage is a factor. With it being in an auto car, I would say that isnt an issue with you. 4.30's will work fine in your car after the swap, and should be real fun on the streets.

I prefer a manual, but built autos can be sick to say the least. If you're dead set on a manual your 4.30 gears are going to make first gear nearly useless, and like a lot of people, you will struggle to launch the car with optimal control and minimal drag, even with radials simply because 4.30s will run you right through 1rst, and even 2nd in no time flat. I wouldn't be suprised to say you'd be shifting into 3rd at 30 mph with those gears. I have 3.55s on my 5.0 and my first gear is already short as hell, but not so short that I have a hard time launching the car. I'd do the swap first and see if it's something you like, you may like the extremely short first, or you may be like others and can out the 4.30s for 3.55s or 3.73s to regain that 1rst gear control and traction.

You have all the parts down, but I believe that you'll need an ECU out of a car with a manual, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that your current ECU can be reprogrammed for a manual except by Ford, so that one I would call on first. But to put it simply you'd need:

Belhousing
Clutch
Flywheel
Clutch Cable
Clutch Pedal Assembly
Transmission
Possibly the Transmission to Driveshaft Yoke (not sure if the auto and manual use the same)
Manual ECU or ECU reprogram if possible
