Talking 2008 Nascar

The 2007 thread is soooooo long I thought I'd start a fresh one. Who'd a thought there were so many NASCAR fans here?
Actually I am a fan of auto racing in general. I hear that Speed vision will be covering some of my NASA races this year...that'd be cool

So, to start the controversial first topic....my new favorite driver is going to be Jacques Villeneuve.

He's a classy guy (qualified 6th in his first race, but decided to zero his steering before the green flag so that he was out of the way of the chasers and took the back seat...class class class!), has ton's of driving skills and loves to compete. In the event that Jacques does not qualify I am going to chear on Franchitti, another open-wheel infiltrator
After that crash last year, you just gotta cheer for that guy. Franchitti crash video

Of course now that Jr has joined my old favorite driver (Casey Mears) on the NG team I guess I have to be a Jr fan now too That and my son love's drinking AMP.

Default 2008

Hey Bluefire: 2008 should be a crazy year! I would love to see the Hendrick & Gibbs teams self destruct with to many superstars like many other sports teams have. I'm a Ford guy so i would like to see Jack Roush get his teams winning again.

I think That Hendricks is going to be almost unstoppable AGAIN. As for Gibbs, I think Stewart will be leaving there shortly and then Gibbs will go down the tubes. We'll have to see how they do in the Toyotas.

NASCAR 2008= I just don't know about it...I am a diehard fan (#48 fan as some of you might already know) but NASCAR themselves are screwing this sport up. I hate the new car, too many changing sponsors and where are the good ole days when you had names like Rusty Wallace, Harry Gant and now you have ones you can't even pronounce after a brewsky or 12

I haven't watched a full race this year, yet. Then again, I didnt' last year either. I can only take so much of the 3 ring circus of Chris Myers, Jeff Hammond and DW. To be honest, it's hard to watch a race without Benny calling it.

I have to admit, if you would have told me before the season that Newman would win Daytona, and Carl would be at 2 in a row now, Hendrick would have zero wins so far after 3 races, I wouldn't have believed it, not that I'm complaining mind you!

Default Martinsville results

So Hamlin pulls out the win...good for him...guess that early pit before lap 250 paid off...nice gamble.

I was happy to see Casey Mears get a top 10 finish on the short track....heck a top 10 finish on any track!

Default Another win for Edwards

Not sure how the race looked on TV but yesterday's race at TMS was pretty predictable from 150 laps in....I won't call it boring but being out there it was tough to find anything on the track to watch for the last 100 laps.
Good for Edwards finding something that pretty much no one else had (although Johnson could keep up - just not overtake) - or did he just drive better? I like his attitude "I am tired of hearing people complain...that's racing".
Even with 3 restarts including the green-white he wins with an "comfortable" lead....it would have been even bigger lead if NASCAR did not throw a "debris" flag with 100 laps to go...Edwards had an 8 second lead at that point and was pulling away about 1/10th per lap.
My boy Casey Mears finishes where he started 22nd...2 laps down
