Default V-6 drivetrain compared to GT

I haven't had my Mustang very long, but I noticed that when my wheels are spinning, i'm only getting rubber on one side. It's a v-6 so I was kind of curious if anyone knows if there is a difference between the GT and V-6 drivetrain as far as the drive wheels go. Do the 6's have one drive wheel? Or do I need to take my mustang in to get checked out?

Nope, that's right...the V6s only have the "one wheel peel" going for them.

That can be fixed by going the aftermarket route...but if you stay stock, you just have the one wheel.

Your car has what is called an "open differential", meaning that if one wheel loses traction it will spin indepenedently of the other. V8 cars have what Ford calls a Traction-Loc differential that limits the individual wheels' ability to spin without the other. This is also called a limited slip differential. There's nothing wrong with your car except that it's a V6.

haha yeah thanks.

That's what I figured, but I just wanted to qualify it. I guess I just would have thought that a rear wheel drive "sports car" regardless of performance package would have a Limited slip.

I also thought it'd be more cost effective/efficient to only manufacture one drivetrain... but then again I'm sure that would jack the price up on all the mustangs.

Thanks for the help.

One other thing that I could have mentioned here is that the v6 cars actually have a different rear end entirely than the v8 cars. They have a 7.5-inch ring gear and the v8 cars have an 8.8-inch. They're "corporate" pieces, so its not like they're making an assembly just for one or the other. Both pieces are used in multiple vehicles.
