and then.....then and then....
DATE: Jun 03 2007, 8:31 am / MOOD: Other

....while changing out the water pump on my 67 cougar, two bolts broke off in the block.... the first bolt was fought-out with a small fight, but the second one is a bear.... just won't let go.... so boyfrinn has been hoggin it outta there and finally got that badboy o-u-t ... after lotsa curse-words, walking away from it, breaking the easy-outs [stubborn bolt...], ordering some end mills and fighting that sucker outta there, he is putting her back together!!!

i have had the 67 cat since 1978 and she has almost 400k miles on her..... that water pump has been on her since about 1988 or 89..... it is a wonder it came out at all!!!

the 69 cat-vertible is waiting for her new 351 [windsor] to be built.... i just picked up a second compleat motor so we can use the block, rods and pistons from it and use the heads from a different motor .... we are going to keep her mild, but keep enough ~oooomph~ in her that she might be considered a sleeper.... mostly because i drive her like a little ol' lady.... but, in theory, i want to be able to lay some rubber down IF i ever feel like it....    [i save all that silly business for the drag strip... street shenanigans are ridiculous and only prove to me that a person is very lacking and needy ...]

so ..... both cats, for now, are resting in their den and i hope to have them back on the road soon!

my 67 fairlane 500 ranchero is still at my brother's, he has put a nice lil 302 in her with just enough stride she will live up to the name on her license plate "SPUNKY 67"... we still have some interiour work to do and she needs new paint before too long, but for the most part hopefully the spunk will come home soon....

the 70 stang got a new solenoid and starter and we are putting an optima battery in so all her ills are cured and i will be back at the track saturday for our next points race...

it is always nice to report in with some GOOD news!!!

down for the count.... for now...
DATE: May 28 2007, 9:59 am / MOOD: Disapointed

we just got back to nc from visiting family in iowa.  before we left town, we had a points race..... i was hitting the tree the way i needed and the car was running great... she is such a consistant performer.....

i was lined up for fourth round .... the second pair to go down the track ... when they called me forward to get in line for the waterbox, my car decided to not start for me.... no grind, no click, no nothing.....

i called the official over to let him know and they put me on the clock for either five minutes or the end of the class.... they got the jump box and tried with no luck to get me started up.... i was trying to stay calm and focused because i just ~knew~ my car would not let me down and i would be racing that round..... they paged rob [boyfrinn] to come to the staging lanes and he high-tailed it over....

they banged on the starter, banged on the solenoid, banged on every other god-knows-what they could get their implements of destruction upon and yet..... no nothing....

i had to forfeit the round to my competitor and get towed back to the pits.....

so..... in the pits we are trying to figure out what the heck is going on since the car is so danged reliable and simply never gives me a hard time....

boyfrinn decides to disable the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid [so i would not crank the switch by habit while they push me onto the trailer].....the split-second that wire comes off, the danged car STARTS all by itself, so he goes dashing around to the drivers window thinking the switch must be on and IT IS NOT!!!!

so.... here we are, in the pits, my car vroom-vroom'in all by itself.... the KEY is in the OFF position on the column the solenoid is disabled and we have no way to shut her down..... we try taking the cable off the battery and that baby sparks like a welder ... so we just wait.... and wait..... and finally after about a full 4 minutes she just kinda shuts down.... a clean shut down, no coughing or sputtering, just ~done~ shuts down....

so we pull the battery cables and i armstrong steer that baby onto the trailer using boy-power to push me where i need to be.... [we have a 36' double-car open trailer, so it was a fun push for those guys....]

anyways, our next points race is in two weeks, so we have a little time to get things in order..... thankfully!!

AAAAhhhhhh.... racing season!!!
DATE: Mar 03 2007, 7:16 am / MOOD: Full of life

today is the first day our track is open for the drag racing season! we only have test and tune but it is seat-time none.the.less!!!   time to knock the dust off my helmet, give the stang a loving pat on the dash and head to the track.... our weather today is gorgeous, almost 70*, under a clear blue carolina sky..... a full moon tonite ..... [reminder: with a lunar eclipse that starts about 5:45pm EST and compleats about 6:55 pm......]

anyways, i missed the season last year due to business travel then unemployment so i am triple excited about getting back behind the wheel.... just loading her off the double car trailer yesterday gave me a thrill-chill up my spine!  i had to romp her around the driveway a little just to hear that yummy thump thump  vroooooom.....ahhhhhhhhhhhh...... oh yah baby!  that is the delicious stuff!!

so this grrl is back in the saddle and ready for the season to commence!  why else would i be out of bed at 7:30 on a saturday morning.... heh heh heh....

finally!! a new job!!
DATE: Nov 19 2006, 7:38 am / MOOD: Full of life

well!! hooray!!

i have been in negotiations recently with a regional financial institution .... they have been recruiting me to come on board in the marketing area for their mortgage loans division..... after over two months of romancing, we finally got all the details worked out to everyone's satisifaction...... and i began work this past monday!!

i am thrilled, because the businessman [now my boss] who was pursuing me is someone who has had MY business on numerous occassions.... so i am very familiar with him and his personality.... we match well with each other and i am looking forward to working with him.... plus i have a kickin' front office with a huge window ....

my primary focus will be working with local contractors, builders and realtors to promote our services and products and increase their client referrals to OUR bank..... so i get to use my PR prowess, marketing experience and my event planning background to plan 'meet and greets' and other opportunities for us to put ourselves out there to the community.....

since i have a real-live job now, i have to reaquaint myself with the concept of a schedule.... so of course i have been a little dorky about my evening time and how i spend it....

so! my absence on this lovely site is now explained! heh heh

i make a pledge, mustanger friends, to be here much more often than i have been lately!  i have missed you guys!

what not to wear???
DATE: Oct 18 2006, 4:25 pm / MOOD: Full of life

oh my god.... i am so addicted to "What Not to Wear" on TLC.... i just cannot stop watching it!! i plan my lunch hour around it.... which is super easy to do these days when unemployment is my 'job'....

pppppfffhhhhtttttt....

i do not usually admit to such guilty pleasures but this one has me hooked....

i can't wait to see what kind of wacky wardrobes these folks have to ditch before they can go on their $5k shopping spree.... it is really a hoot to see some of them....

but then... THEN.... i think about MY closet and MY amoire and how OUTDATED and DRAB my wardrobe is.... yikes!! and shoes.... how compleatly horrid some of MY clunky chunky funky shoes are.... they evidently are at the bottom of the food chain these days ha ha ha....

but ...... i see these makeover-ettes being sent into shoe stores to emerge with those pointy pointy pointy toe shoes and i think how lucky my feet are to have all that moving room in the clunky chunky funky shoes i have.... of course the hosts of the show would simply ban my footwear and throw it in the trash can.... as they do all the clothes and shoes the makeover-ettes bring with them to NY....

lord knows my day to day clothes are worn-out racetrack or ford tshirts, paired with worn out jeans.... or if i am feeling really fancy i will wear darker dyed jeans with a tshirt that has ~no~ screenprinting on it.... ooooooh... sooooo dressy.... ha ha

for some reason, i get totally enthralled with the concept of makeovers....i can't wait to see the before and after images side by side.... it is nuts.... i have no idea why these shows grab my attention and hold it like as if this transformation is going to achieve world peace or some other important event!!!

one thing is for sure.... i have recently been inspired....

inspired to go through my clothes and donate numerous piles of them .... because now.... ashamedly..... i admit.... i know.... what... not... to ...wear....

heh heh heh

demolition derby anyone?!
DATE: Oct 15 2006, 7:41 pm / MOOD: Happy

a sorta kinda fun story:

in spring of 2002, my ex-husband person asked if he could store a car out here [we have 7 acres] ....and being the kind kat that i am i said sure, but only for a little while, maybe six months or so....

so he tows a big-o-honkin' station wagon out here and ... well.... the six months turned into geeeeeesh.... FOUR AND A HALF FREAKING YEARS....

~ahem~

so...
this time last year, i got the title to the wagon so i could either tow it off the property OR sell it....

and ..... i decided to have FUN with it....

a friend of ours drives in DEMOLITION DERBYS!!!
we GAVE the wagon to him TODAY!!!
that big-o-honkin bowtie wagon got wenched onto a trailer and boyfrinn towed it outta here with our F350....

holy freakin moly.... friend D was soooooo happy to get that wagon!! it got towed to the shop he works for and that whale fired right up.... he was so excited he drove it around the block.... hahahahhahahhahaa..... this was after he had broken the side glass out of it.... what a sight!

so, next weekend, we get to go to the demo-derby at the [NC] state fair and watch 'our' wagon get slaughtered!! and what ADDS to the coolness is saturday is boyfrinns' birthday, so we will certainly have some fun!

woooooooohooooooooooooo!!!
can't wait!!!
what a blast!!!

aaahhhhhhhhhhhh.... a fantastic day!! that bowtie stood out like a very sore thumb on this blue oval property!!! heh heh heh.....

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh .....the weekend!
DATE: Oct 14 2006, 9:40 am / MOOD: Full of life

funny how, when one is unemployed, one still looks forward to the weekend as an official reason to have nothing on one's schedule.... um... ok... the 'one' of which i speak is none other than me me me me me....

i have been busting butt for two weeks designing and creating a new walkway off our front porch, creating a new flower bed, improving the existing beds, transplanting the plants and updating one major problem bed that is full of weeds .... *and* the other day i decided to design a rock garden... so i am almost finished with THAT project as well!

i woke up this morning looking forward to another beautiful carolina day full of tasks that involve being in our forest gathering rocks and finishing the rock bed.... then i realised the REAL reason i am looking forward to the day is that the NASCAR cup race is a saturday nite gig instead of a sunday-day race.....this means several things....

first off, it means an early supper so we can plop on the big-o-cushy-comfy-couch and gorg-out on the boob-tube.... secondly it means yummy cosmopolitan martini's for 'dessert'.... and thirdly, it means we have the entire day sunday for whatever activities we do not finish today!

i love sunday races when it is hot outside ... it keeps us out of the heat of the day.... a great excuse to stay indoors.....

but this time of the year, it is sooooo nice to have saturday nite races to free up our cool weather sundays!

i am still having morning coffee and it is really close to being noon soon! heh heh

i suppose i am still in love with weekend mornings even though, until i begin working again, i have an entire week of saturdays!

lazy bones....
DATE: Oct 09 2006, 8:32 am / MOOD: Bored

sheeeeeeeesh.......

i slept really late this morning... when boyfrinn left before 7 i was wide awake and laid in bed for a while thinking i should just get up.... um.... welp.... i did not.... i zonked back out and snoooooozed until almost 9:00..... danged unheard of in the real world..... but for some reason really easy to do if one is not working..... sigh .......

i am getting antsy about being out of work.... my resume is kickin but i am getting no nibbles on any of my submittals..... needless to say THAT is very discouraging.... i am cross-eyed and painless from reading online employment ads....

lat week i had a project to keep me busy.... i landscaped a new walkway and tore apart my flower beds that line it, re-doing them a bit wider than they were before ....as well as translanting everything in them..... i was worn out by the time friday rolled around.... and thankful it was a rainy day.....i had the purrrrfect excuse to do no yard work!

today, it is gorgeous outside.... i am going to go play outside and haul firewood to the party field then maybe mow a little bit....

you guys have a fantastic day... i am looking forward to what is left of mine! so.....i reckon i gotta git!!!

pancakes.... yum!!
DATE: Oct 08 2006, 10:26 am / MOOD: Happy

MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! this morning i made deeee-lish buttermilk pancakes.... holy moly they were yummy!! real butter, real maple syrup and the freshest milk ever from the dairy around the corner from our house..... cold cold whole milk sold in glass bottles.... it is simply the best!

oh.... ~ahem~ did i mention i cooked a pound of bacon to go with.... heh heh.... MMMMMmmmmmmmmm!!

so boyfrinn and i are in food coma right now...

we are supposed to spend time today gathering firewood for our bonfire ring.... but we have had such a grey lazy weekend and now we are pretty worthless in the motivation department.... hard to know what will happen... and a little easier to guess what won't....

AND! the boys are at talladega today.... vrooom vrooom baby! so .... watching the race is good for the afternoon hours, including taking our obligatory nap on the big-o-cushy-comfy-couch somewhere between laps 115 and 160 .... ha ha ha.... no, really, i am not kidding!!

ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

so we have had our coffee, our breakfast and now our ambitions seem to have waned a bit, as we are both sitting at our individual computers basking in the full-tummy afterglow.... teeehheheeeeheeee

mustangers, have a productive day! somebody out there has to do it.... i believe it shan't be i!

spit spitting spat spitty spit
DATE: Oct 07 2006, 8:04 am / MOOD: Full of life

watching baseball is something i have always enjoyed....although i never really followed the sport very closely, i enjoy the game....i am not a sports freak or even a fan of one specific team.... but baseball simply offers something that jives with most folk....

however....

i can barely stand to watch it anymore.... the constant spit-fest is absolultely disgusting.... these atheletes are world-class players with amazing competency in their sport... DID THEIR MOTHERS NEVER TEACH THEM THAT SPITTING IS A NASTY FILTHY DISGUSTING UNSANITARY UNFORGIVABLE HABIT????

what is it that happens out there on the diamond and in the pens that makes one feel compelled to hock up a fat one and spit.... their throats and sinus passages must be as raw as a pound of ground round!! you don't see spitting as a second sport in any OTHER nationally televised games [or other oral fixations see #2 & #3 below].

holy god ....i cannot believe the amount of nasty spit that must be on the bottom of their cleats....all the nasty particulates that must be airborne and filling their lungs.... all the misguided phlegm-flinging that must have it ending up snailing down their chest, shoulders or legs....

eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..... it is freaking gross.....

and shame on the american public for accepting this stomach churning habit as the norm.... where else would a pack of grown men standing around spitting nasty bio-hazard fluids be socially acceptable????

and the "ex" spitters who have graduated to chomping on sunflower seeds and letting the shells drooooooool out of their mouths is just as sexy as a drip of snot hanging out of their nose..... sheeeeeeesh!!!

maybe baseball is simply one of those high-stress "games" where you have to select from the following menu:

1. rip the membranes out of your nose and throat and spit like a llama....the more the better...

or

2. fill your mouth with whatever else you want and let the results of it seep out of the corners of your downturned mouth.

alternate selection:

3. chew so much gum you look like a 6 year old chomping with zero elegance and charm.

i risk being called an old fogie when i declare: our attitudes regarding personal hygiene and public behaviour have gone to the dogs.....

WOOF!!!

heh heh
